 Real World Perspectives on Applied Data Science

In this short talk, we will discuss a perspective on what is Applied Data Science, followed by discussion of a powerful overarching paradigm in Data Science that is based on predictive model-based decision making. We will touch upon several real world deployments of Data Science to highlight key challenges, and innovative solutions. We will include a discussion of how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods fit within this paradigm.

Dr. Raj Subbu is Director of Data Science and Analytics at Pratt and Whitney. He came to Pratt and Whitney from General Electric’s Analytics team in 2012. He has 28 US Patents to his name, and has published over 50 peer reviewed articles on his work covering a wide spectrum of Applied Analytics. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. At Pratt and Whitney he is focused on developing the next generation of talent and leadership in Applied Analytics. He lives in Avon, CT with his wife and two young children, and enjoys spending time with his family and doing a variety of projects around the house and on his cars. He also enjoys volunteering his time and expertise for community development activities.
